Section I: Support from the Jumpstart Network
Support from the Jumpstart Network
Each site has access to multiple resources to aid in the process of planning and developing a Jumpstart service-learning course. The following highlights a few of the resources available through the Jumpstart network, but be sure to consult the guidelines “Getting Started: Developing Campus Support” to find out more about resources available on your campus and in your state.
People Who Provide Support
Each site falls into one of our five regions: Central, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Southern and Western. Each site manager reports to a program director (or in some cases, another site manager)in their region as the primary liaison and point person for programmatic, operational and technical support. Your Jumpstart program director can help orient you to the resources that exist within your region and within Jumpstart’s national network.
At the national office, the education department is available to support Jumpstart’s Service-Learning Initiative. Members of the department are available to support site staff and faculty advisors in their work on service-learning and to answer questions, provide additional resources, and connect you with other practitioners in the Jumpstart service-learning network. Jumpstart’s director of evaluation will also be able to provide you with information that is particularly relevant to faculty interested in conducting further research on the impact that their service-learning program has on children, Corps members, and the community. Staff from additional national departments, such as operations, marketing and communications, and finance, can offer support in their areas of expertise. For more information on the work of each department, please refer to the National Resources section of the Intranet.
Finally, we hope that site staff in the Jumpstart service-learning network will collaborate with each other to share resources, ideas and support across the network and within regions. Some of the structures outlined below are designed to facilitate this form of cross-network support.
Structures That Provide Support
Jumpstart has built the following systems and structures that complement the Service-Learning Resource Guide and provide site staff with ongoing, comprehensive support to implement the Jumpstart program:
- Jumpstart Syllabi - Located in the education page of the National Resources page of the Intranet, the Jumpstart Syllabi section is a compilation of all the syllabi from service-learning courses implemented across the network over the past year.
- The Jumpstart Intranet - The Intranet is the internal network that holds “soft copies” of all support materials, including the Service-Learning Resource Guide and the Jumpstart Syllabi Packet. As many faculty members do not have access to the Intranet, we are working hard to identify additional delivery systems accessible via the Internet. We will keep you updated on any new developments!
- Jumpstart ’s Programmatic Materials - Many of the materials Jumpstart produces to ensure successful implementation of its program model are also particularly relevant to service-learning courses. These materials include Jumpstart training, Jumpstart ing School Success: A Toolkit for Corps Members, and Jumpstart’s materials for program partner and family involvement. You can access many of these materials through the Site Management Binder.
Jumpstart always welcomes ideas, questions, and suggestions related to the Service-Learning Resource Guide and its support for the Service-Learning Initiative in general. Please continually share your feedback with us!
Enjoy!
